Cannot work it out
« on: May 02, 2014, 10:21:39 PM »
Hi all, bought this recently and have done a fair bit of research but still can't determine any source for this weight. The diameter is 3.70 inches. I am sure I have seen one similar before but senile dementia setting in. Green tint to the glass itself. HELP.
                  Regards Roger

Hi again, thanks for your suggestions. Thinking sideways (broader thinking) about the exactly round and highly polished base together with the clear but green tint to the glass composition I can't see how it could be chinese.

I was thinking Murano as the canes ring a bell but I've checked images I have and can't find a match now, but the green glass is not something I've seen in Murano weights so?

I would vote for Murano. Far too neat for Chinese, even with the better quality latest productions.

Thank you for your research and the conclusions seem good.  The age of the weight is still a mystery though looking at the green tint glass and cane formation I feel it goes back several decades.
       Any thoughts on that subject?

Hi Roger

I associate the style and the red flower canes with the 1950s - 1960s, but have no hard evidence to confirm the date.
