Ekenp's Sweden, 20th Century Flower Vase - ID = Ekenas
« on: June 22, 2014, 12:35:03 PM »
Hello,

This is my first post, apologies in advance if I break any rules.

My parents inherited it from grandparents 20+ years ago. I've tried investigating it myself as there's little info to go on but without success. The vase was likely bought at a flea market in Sweden at some point during the 20th century. It's got the following inscribed in its base:

"EKENP'S SWEDEN B1/T.29.H."

I think E Kenp is the person who made it and possibly in the year 1929. I don't know much beyond that. I'm attaching two photos of the engraving. Unfortunately my (lack of) photoshop skills may prevent me from posting a photo of the vase itself which is small enough to be attachable here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for reading this.

Apologies for replying to my own post, but I finally managed to shrink the photo of the whole vase so that I can now attach it..!

Welcome to the forum.  :)

I suspect the signature may read Ekenas, relating to Ekenas Glasbruk Sweden.

Hope this helps a little.

Greg

Thank you Greg for the tip, that looks very likely.
I was way off with my guesses!

I found the 125Kb max image size a bit limiting so I've placed the full sized versions of the photos on dropbox.
When I googled Ekenas I came across someone who had bought a vase of similar size and volume (but different image engraved on it)

Thanks for the full size photos.

I'm confident your vase is by Ekenas Glasbruk, they would have produced a wide variety of different engraved designs over the years. There's a brief snap shot of their history in the following link:

Regarding the engraved bird design on your vase, I just came across the following example, which looks very similar, although the shape may be slightly different:

Brilliant, that's virtually the same vase engraving.
Thank you for all your help Greg, I'm indebted to you.
