Genuine or fake Webbs cameo vase? help please.
« on: June 30, 2014, 12:38:38 PM »
Hello there i only paid £97 for this from ebay which seems a tenth of what they usually sell for, i'm wondering if it's the real thing or a copy, i can not find any cameo glass within that price range, but i did see a couple of much larger examples recently in a similar colour.

It's 4 1/4 inches in height, 2 1/4 inches across the rim and 2 1/8th inches across the base.

Nice vase. I'm seeing a lot of Webb Cameo and Webb Bronze vases on eBay of late, which seems rather strange, but that doesn't mean yours isn't real - I hope it is  :-\

Here's all the listings for Webb Cameo, which features a hell of a lot from the USA...

Needs a proper expert in this field to be absolutely sure.

Hi ,
Looks like Stourbridge cameo work to me ,  yes believe it or not the "oldglassman" has a collection of these too, whether Webbs or Stevens and Williams or one of the others I will leave to those with more knowledge than me , I must say though If i had spotted it on eBay I would have had a good go at buying it , so if it needs a new home you know who to contact  lol

cheers ,
               Peter.

It may or may not be Webb, but that doesn't mean it's fake. Plenty of companies made cameo glass at the same time.

I do not think for one moment that it is new or from the far east.
It is high quality, whatever it is. ;D

Chris, yours has some similarities with this one from David's search, including subject matter (no idea if the blurb is accurate): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ANTIQUE-THOMAS-WEBB-CAMEO-GLASS-ENAMEL-VASE-CONVOLVULUS-BENJAMIN-HOLLIS-C-1884-/191011409359?pt=UK_Art_Glass&hash=item2c792acdcf

If you are not happy with your new vase I could also provide it with a roof...

John

There were two of these the other went for 80 quid i think, wish i would have picked that one up as well, incredible price that listing is asking and there are 11 people watching it, out of the last four things ive picked up from eBay it's the only one to survive the post, it makes my blood boil when they arrived, broken, badly packaged, i could go on for hours.

It doesn't have to be Stourbridge cameo this style of cameo was made in Bohemia and probably France too -and no I don't mean later inferior continental copies - many of the non-English Cameos of this style are of exceptional quality and contemporary to the Stourbridge-wares
