Small bulb vase, ID help please
« on: July 13, 2014, 09:07:18 PM »
Hi All,

This has been sitting in my cupboard for a few months now, its approx 4" x 3.5" tall. Slightly wonky top, kind of pushed in pontil. Colours, black, red, purples. Could any one point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

David

May be a possibility? - I have a Phoenician Glass (Malta) perfume bottle with stopper that looks similar in shape to your vase and with the same reddish hue and mottled colours.  The inside of the neck of mine is ground, where the stopper fits.

It's not Phoenician. It's got an unusual sort of "tiny blob of glass has been put on the pontil scar and then flattened with a tool" but the tool has no maker's logo on it!
I have one of these, I had suspected at the time it might be a variation on Caithness "Manhattan", but the blob on the pontil scar would put that out. I found it in a charity shop in Edinburgh.

Mine's been sitting for years without an id, not just months. ::)

I suppose we have one small clue, David, we both found them in Scotland. :)

Hi Sue,
So we can deduce that this is most probably a very exclusive, high end vase, made only here in Scotland, and rare, as we have the only two known, GREAT NEWS!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Cheers, David
