small orange glass with blue foot
« on: July 31, 2014, 05:05:45 PM »
Hi all, this little glass has a few chips on the foot or more accurately the air bubbles in the blue glass have  blistered here and there,it hasn't a ring more of a short ping i would say and interestingly a shear mark on the base hinting it was held by a gadjet when made, any thoughts my guess would be Polish, many thanks.

Going over this piece with a magnifying glass i may have spotted some writting on top of the foot, the last 4 letters being G I C C Y,but very difficult to read,so maybe a studio glass?

Could it be N A N C Y? -in which case it could easily be Daum

I'm not getting NANCY,but it's very difficult to decipher Mike, the texture of the base is different from the body  with alot more bubbles ,so hard to engrave  well i would imagine.

Have you tried rubbing a little talc over the marks to see if that brings them up a little?

It isn't the right shape for a Monart shot glass, but there are some things about it that are a bit Monart-y.

Could Schneider be a possibility?  ???

Just tried a bit of talc and i'm not sure it's going to help, there could be many variations to them all!?Anyway the first 5 scribbles could be and i really mean could be D O J U T ,and then and equally unsure,4 6 1 C C Y, there is the odd dash here and there that could be anything.

I wonder if what we might have here is a full on test piece, testing what i don't know maybe how easy it is to write on bubbly glass,or colour combinations and additives,i've done glaze testing myself in a small way and it's always best to do it on something you can use later just in case it turned out ok,you also find out to mark the test thoroughly just in case it's good.

Managed to get my hands on the good camera so you can see the markings for yourselves.

 :)

I can make Nancy out of that, but I wouldn't like to attribute it to Daum on the strength of the look of the writing - it looks more as if somebody's written their name on it with a diamond point pen.
