Found this vase today and I LOVE IT! It's quite big, about 18cm x 22cm at widest point, and weighs in at 2.6kg. Base is ground flat but with little surface scratches so I don't think it's either old, or it hasn't been moved or used a lot! There was slight limescale inside, which has come off with a brief rub of remover, so it has been used. I don't care if it's anything special as I love it anyway, more interested in the history behind it. Would anyone be able to tell me anything about it?

And it was a bargain at £13.50. I beat them down from £15. Happy Days.

Has a hint of... dare I say it... Peter Layton? You may harumphhh!!! but I bought a Peter Layton vase (signed) last year for £17.00. Ok so at the time I thought it was Murano, but there you go. I also bought a book on the same day with Peter Layton vases pictured in it! How many times that that happen! Just the once for me. This vase doesn't seemed to be signed though. Presumably London Glass Blowing do produce vases that arn't made by Peter Layton. Looks a cut above the usual though...

I'm not sure if it is anything so 'fine'. If I run my fingers over the inside, there are a few rough spots, like tiny raised pimples? I'm a complete novice and don't know anything much about glass at all, but I do know that I like glass and would like to find out more.

Well It'd be a surprise if it was anything to do with London Glass Blowing, I guess it would be signed if it was. The Peter Layton vase I had was very heavy and beautifully made. It did have imperfections though - tiny bubbles in the glass, and a few sticky-uppy bits, they're hand blown after all. I suppose this could be Murano - I say that mainly 'cos I don't know much about Murano, they do seem happy though to rip-off a lot of other peoples design ideas! I don't know if the Chinese can produce stuff like this or not.

Surely somebody cleverer than what I am knows!

There is a range of glass called Castellani marketed here in Australia that has pieces very similar to this.  I suspect they are quality Chinese Murano but I am not certain about that.

If it is very new and modern, Polish (Krosno) would be a better bet. It's what you find in the better homeware stores here and you can bet for more money.

Just stumbled across a labelled example of these vases and thought I would update this thread.

Pretty much as concluded. These vases were retailed by Crate & Barrel who are a large American retail outlet, who specialise in homeware products etc. These specific vases were produced in China, looking at the label, although, Crate & Barrell also retail numerous glass products from other mass-production hotspots in Poland and Mexico, glancing their website.
