George Davidson Glass???
« on: August 20, 2014, 04:20:24 AM »
I recently purchased this dish at auction. After some research, I determined it is a George Davidson Glass Company pattern. However, I can't find anything that tells me that this canoe dish was made in this green color. It measures 9 inches long. Did I purchase a reproduction? Thank you in advance for any help.

It's fine. Davidson did make a dark green. You may even find it's uranium glass

Welcome to the GMB!

Christine is referring to shining a 'black' light (UV) to see if the glass fluoresces a bright green. If so, then it's uranium. Very nice piece.

Thank you both for the information!!! That is great news. What date would you give this dish? Late 1800's? How can I determine what the dish is worth?

You will find more information on www.cloudglass.com. Masses of information to wheedle through.

Value is purely conjectural and depends upon far too many variants to give an accurate answer. Just list it on eBay and see what happens.

I think it could be the L. G. Wright reproduction. It's called the "Crescent Planter" and was made in this green colour. When Wright sold their moulds in the 1990s I believe this one was purchased and it is in production yet again.

I guess I'll just have to break down and purchase more glass company books for my research.  :-\  The only information I can find online regarding the L G Wright reproductions say that it is only produced in blue and no mention of the metal handle. Many thanks for all your help!!!!!!

L.G. Wright #77-48 Crescent Planter, blue, green, amber & amethyst. Wright purchased a large group of european molds in 1939. Wrights mold auction was held on May 27, 1999 & companies purchasing molds were Fenton Glass, Mosser Glass, L. E. Smith Glass, Wilkerson Glass, Gibson Glass, AA Importing and Castle Reproductions. Oh dear, sorry. We don't see the reproductions over here so tend to assume there aren't any

I'd like to see pictures of the outside bottom of this piece.

Incidentally, the moulds purchased by Wright in the 1930s were moulds that originated at various glass factories in Indiana, Pennsylvania USA, not Europe.
