Vaseline Glass Elephant

I have just acquired a lovely piece of Vaseline Glass. It looks like a posy holder in the shape of an elephant with a basket on it's back. Inside there is a raised number Rd 64234. It is 2 3/4 tall x 4 1/2" wide Does anybody know anything about this? I would really love to know about it and it's possible value. Thank you all.

Hi,

At the recent National Glass Fair in the UK, there were two of these elephants. One was opalescent with a price tag of £750 and the other I think was white glass with a price tag of around £150.

Quite a proce difference!

Regards
Chris

As I understand it, the difference in price is related to the rarity of certain colours.  Apparently, there are very few pink ones, and if anyone finds one please tell me.  They're not worth much, and I'll give you a tenner for it    8)

(Actually, to be honest     the pink ones are reported go for thousands!      )

Hi Leni,

needless to say the Opalescent one was still there at the end of the fair. I guess there were no buyers around with very deep pockets!

So

if an Opalescent elephant is worth £750
A pink Elephant is worth  > £1, 000
A white Elephant is worth £150
A vaseline Elephant is worth £????

If it's the one I think it is, it's got broken feet - and it's still priced at £750

Ah, but what does 'vaseline' mean in this case?  Many people call the opaque white opalescent glass 'vaseline'.  Exactly what colour is this vaseline elephant we're being asked about?   :?

 Thank you to all who have replied to date. I'm still in the process of working out how to get a photo on. I'll be as quick as I can.
In the meantime:- To me it looks like an opalescent one. Beautiful colours show brightly. Particularly when the sun is on it.
You will see when I get the picture up

I just had a look in Raymond Notleys book entitled: Popular Glass of the 19th & 20th Centuries (Millers).  It appears to show an identical elephant, which is labelled as ROSE.  It looks like it's white, but there is a barely discernable (from the photo anyway) rose blush to the deeper body section.  I suppose the photo could be inaccurate colourwise?  Edit:  Pamela's photo IS the elephant in question, isn't it?
Your registration number is given in the book too.

As Leni has pointed out, the rose colour is very scarce.  The price in the book says (take a deeeeeeep breath) $3,200 - $4,800.  The book neglects to give the size of the elephant shown.
I am not a man
