Combined Buder Set 550 + Others?
« on: August 06, 2020, 05:01:09 PM »
It seems the seller of this set is helping her father sell some of a relatives' glass and ceramics.  Her father remembers the pieces "As a set, years ago".  So it doesn't seem that the relative collected them piece-meal over the years. but bought them all together, as a set.  I have bought the set and give permission to add the photos to the site if required.

I don't think that any of the numbered sets shown in the 1960 catalogue are complete and while trying to make sense of what is shown, come to the conclusion that it might be a composite of at least three previous versions.  Possibly with some pieces added and definitely parts of all three missed out.

It seems to me that not only the 550 set but the 57, 510, 530, 560 and 570 have large trays, candlesticks and some pin trays shown in the catalogue to make up larger sets.  Although Buder was quite happy to sell on a pick-and-mix basis they intended that most if not all of their sets could be made up of a large and smaller comb tray, candlesticks, powder bowl, pin dish, perfume flask and atomiser.
