GORGEOUS Loredano Rosin "NUDE" Sculpture information...
« on: September 14, 2014, 12:59:49 AM »
Purchased this sculpture signed "Loredano Rosin" at an estate sale in North Carolina(USA) yesterday.
Really did not know much about the artist but loved the piece. So I bought it.
Now I would like to know more information about technique used, artist, title of sculpture and year produced.
Also would he have produced many more of this particular subject?
Sculpture stands about 16'inches tall and 12"inches across and very heavy.
P.S. Dog in first picture is not real. ;D

Can't answer most of your questions, but I did find this info about the artist:
http://www.muranonet.com/unfold-venice/loredano-rosin/ (note correct spelling of his name.)

I discovered that recently there has been a commercial "Chalcedony" glass produced that can be bought.

I don't know how recent your amazing sculpture is, but I am a tiny bit suspicious it is recent and done with this commercial stuff, rather than produced in the studio by the artist.

If I'd been lucky enough to see this, I'd have bought it too. :)

Sorry but I believe this piece to be 100% authentic for the estate from which it was purchased had very high end glass, furniture and antiques. As-well-as the dealers reputation who is  "Certified Appraiser of Antique Appraisal & Estate Sale Service" and very much respected by the USPAP tested and qualified. (Certification includes Antiques, Fine Art, Appreciable Residential Contents). she appraises professionally for the public, attorneys, personal representative, estates, IRS and insurance
requirements.

ok.  :)
I just thought, as I really don't know how to tell the "real" individually produced thing from the sort of thing made from the commercial chalcedony, it was worth mentioning as a possibility.
I've been fascinated by Chalcedony glass for a long time, and was a little disturbed to hear about the commercial variety.

The shape is a staple of Murano glassmakers - usually called Vergogna In Ginocchio (Shame On Her Knees), or some variation thereof.

Here it is produced by Vetreria Artistica Oball:

I want to make a couple of comments on this thread, sorry but I am nit picking...

This type of glass is usually called chalcedony or calcedonio if we are talking Italian. Personally I would not describe it as a technique but a type of glass.

I really do not understand Sue's reference to commercial chalcedony. All sorts of glass made with different formula have been available to purchase by glass makers for many decades and more. As I understand it few glass makers make their own formula up these days.

All finished glass products that are made available for sale are 'commercial' regardless of the size of the studio/business.

Here is an example of a bit of calcedonio, a large urn from Murano, perhaps circa 1870: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,57145.msg323861.html#msg323861
