UNUSUAL PW Bottle signed by???
« on: September 22, 2014, 03:24:28 PM »
Picked this unusual bottle up in Atlanta, Georgia (USA). It was priced very low so I had to have it just out of curiosity as to finding out the maker.
It is signed "M. Gibson" so I think. the M is not easily seen nor photographed and the Gibson may not be Gibson at all.
The bottle stands 5"inches tall with the stopper.
After many searches I've still not come up with an identification.
Your help would be much appreciated as would any comments be positive or negative. ???
Thank you,
Tony

Could have been made by Gibson Glass in W.V, They made all kinds of stuff over the years. I think the canes were purchased or may have been some cast offs from the ones Gentile bought and used.
There were two Gibsons, father and son. They went out of business about 5-7 years ago. Gibson Sr. also worked for St. Clair Glass in Indiana many years ago as well.

I am not suggesting any real connection, but the use of canes and threads in that manner, reminds me somewhat of Charles Kaziun's "Spider Lily" items!

Wish I could find anything with the Gibson signature to compare this to. Seems all I find is an impression and not an inscription like mine. Nor have I found any of the same type design as this in the Gibson glass searches.

I would really like a signature that is done by hand, like on the pictures shown in beginning of topic. This is so a comparison can be made. Your picture shows the normal Gibson mark.

I've had a lot of Gibson weights, and I've never seen one done by hand. All have been embossed.

I've had/have several Gibson pieces. The signature looks good to me. The way he made his C in cursive looks like an M.   I'll try to get a picture.
