Topic: Ysart butterfly paperweight at auction today

I was watching these today - estimate £50 - £80 - Hammer I think was £600!

Would anyone like to educate me as to what the other two were?

Left: Baccarat "Dupont"
Middle: Possibly Salvador Ysart

Unfortunately the photo is not in focus. However, for the middle weight, some of the canes seem to be "sloppy" in the setting. Also the canes in the outer row (in what looks like groups of two, separated by another) are too squashed together to be able to see clearly what cane structures actually are. On that basis, I vote for likely Salvador Ysart, although it could still turn out to be a "lesser quality" Paul Ysart one!

After lots of looking I did wonder if it could be a Ysart one, it has that "look" to it.
If they has gone for double the estimate I would have bought them  , but it went way out of my league.

do you think the butterfly was an early- ish one, Moncrieff post war?

Without examining the clarity of the dome and the type of base finish, I can only guess. But to me the butterfly weight looks like it could be either pre-war or later 40s.

Hi.  The butterfly had more than its fair share of stray bubbles, so I assumed no later than 1940s.  I wonder if the winner thought it was an antique Baccarat rather than a Dupont (which it looks like to me too).  That might explain the price paid for the lot (which will be close on £750 including commission).
