possible whitefriars ? ID = Whitefriars pattern M151
« on: December 24, 2014, 11:53:56 PM »
This bowl measures 8.5 " in diameter and looks similar to the Whitefriars sundae dishes, but I cannot  find any reference to a bowl this big.
It is quite heavy and I think it is lead crystal.
Any input would be appreciated.
Tim

thanks for the replies, lustrousstone I have added a picture of the base as I can not find any images of ravenhead whitefire that has this base detail . also the ravenhead glass seems to have a lot of vertical lines in the design not the broken ice type design on this bowl.
I take the point that its not whitefriars, maybe Scandinavian?
john, I will see how much money Santa brings to me .see you at knebwoth.

for what it's worth I can't find the design in Pina's 'Smoke & Ice'.           Would agree it does differ from White Fire'.

Tim Whitefriars in the Glacier design seems to have a plain top for 5-7mms before the basic design begins lower on the piece.

thanks for the replies.
Ross, is the bowl in the middle picture a w/friars item?.
as you say there is a clear banding at the top, mine does not have that band which made me look closer at the rim of mine.
mine has a cut and flat polished top. not sure its worth doing a rim repair on this type of bowl so maybe they left the factory different widths?
still a bit of a puzzle
thanks again

The textured patterns do look very similar, is the size correct for a Whitefriars bowl? If so perhaps an after market repair.

yes john the two patterns are the same but as johnphilip says I do not think they are w/friars.
I looked at the old catalogues and images on google and I think their salad bowl is totally different design, but you can see some similarities to their sundae dishes.
lets hope somebody recognizes this pattern.
thanks again
