Topic: Stunning little piece - can anyone identify pls?

Hello,

As per my previous requests.. this is a piece which I've had in my collection for a long time and I'm finally trying to identify.  I'm afraid that the signature (in spite of talc etc) is particularly difficult to capture but the design is quite distinctive.  The piece is v small, only 3" high and v heavy.

All help and suggestions welcomed and appreciated.

Is the glass very thick and do the garden-y bits appear on different levels - ie. some on the outside and some inside - but still all cased?

The whole thing reminds me very much of an early Peter Layton piece I have, one which the seller, who is very reputable, told me was actually made by Peter Layton himself, rather than somebody working to his designs and subsequently signed by Mr Layton.

But I can't see your image of the mark on it too well, although it could be similar to the mark on my bit.

Yes, it's exactly as you describe though I'm not convinced by the Peter Layton estimation ;-) .  I've had two early pieces go through my hands recently and - though his signatures do vary - I cannot read that into this scrawl at all.  However, would be v happy with that attribution of course!  I'll email his studio as he was v helpful in helping to date and identify the previous pieces and hopefully that will be a yay or nay to that theory.

Can I ask if your piece is of a similar size?  Mine is v small.. A stunning thing though.

I'll take a pic. It's a fairly big bowl. I can't read "Peter Layton" from the marks on it myself.
The light is lousy right now. i haven't managed to make a decent job of the bowl or the signature.

Thank you v much - it is an identical signature and design!!! What a lovely piece.

I still can't see P Layton but am happy to believe it until I hear otherwise!

I bought the bowl from the Guzys at one of the Birmingham fairs. The Guzys really know their glass.
I was told that this is an early signature, one which indicates that it was actually made by the man himself.
So anything wrong about the attribution, I'm afraid, can be laid squarely at their feet. I bought it because I liked it and because I have absolutely no reason to doubt them.

I'm glad you can make out from my dreadful pics that it is the same beast - I can tell from your pics that yours is like mine, I can't tell from my pics at all!

You just have to imagine mine looking like Valsky's, but a different shape. 
The bowl is about 6" tall and in diameter at the rim, over a cm thick.
