Topic: My recent Ysart/Monart

I bought theses two pieces recently at my local auction house, the first one is a Salvador Ysart ink bottle (sadly stopper stuck) and the second one is an early Monart stoneware blue vase with grey inner.

I would like to remove the stopper if possible without any damage, what procedure should I follow.
Any info on that would be appreciated.

Extra care is need for stuck Monart / Vasart bottle stoppers ... because of the well known problem of easy cracking of the glass when under stress. With inkwells, because of the solidity of the stopper and shank, a break is more likely to occur in the neck of the bottle.

I suggest trying a variety of normal releasing agents, like WD40 and equivalents, followed by GENTLY tapping the neck area with a wooden spoon handle.

Thanks Gary and Kevin for the info, I will try Kevin's method as I have WD40 and a wooden spoon. Is it best to twist the stopper or try pulling it upwards ?.
The majority of methods on the web site required either heat (friction or otherwise) or cold (in a fridge) which seemed a bit extreme to me.

Cheers Gary, I have a Monart perfume with cracks to neck, so the wooden spoon would not be a good idea (may cause further damage) so I will try the string method on perfume bottle.

 im not too sure it would work on cracked piece I think it would have to be crack free for the warmth to be able to spread evenly  but worth a try
