Bubbley Gral Glas? Vase???? ID = Rumanian
« on: April 27, 2015, 10:21:00 AM »
This is a preety bubbley vase which im hoping might be a piece of german art glass maybe?? 5.5" tall 4.5" wide at base 21/4" at the rim frosted base iridescent colour on the cased clear outer with profuse bubbling throughout most of the vase the bubbles seem to have metalic looking frits of dark colour or something very unusual, I originally thought it might be zwiesel but not sure now any ideas welcome. Quite a heavy piece of thick glass.

These have been on the board before.
Most likely Romanian (though that attribution probably needs confirmation, see second link below).
But surely not German.

Yeah, i've got one of these too. Bought it in 2009. Is it iridescent on the top?

Heavy often means Poland, very heavy points to the East, as does iridescence. As for Romania, I cannot imagine any factory there making heavies.

Just found another one of these mystery vases on the net, in blue: >> Link
I still haven't seen any real evidence that these are Romanian, but it doesn't seem totally unlikely to me.

I have definitely seen the following heavy vintage pieces with "Made in Romania" stickers:

>> these iridescent hotworked vases come in dark blue or green, and are not uncommon here. Same roughly ground base.
>> pieces with this decor (vases, bowls, swans)

Found a new shape....

Attributed to Heinrich Loffelhardt, Zwiesel. I went looking for his style of bubble glass but couldn't find anything similar.  :-\

Zwiesel made a very similar decor, so it depends on the base finish, which is always
excellent. I have a Zwiesel somewhere - hang on, canīt take more than a few weeks
to find it....  ;D
