Art Deco Glass Lamp now thought to be Bakelite
« on: April 27, 2015, 02:30:34 PM »
I bought this orange lamp this morning. No identifying marks except what you see in the second picture and that may just be a flaw. Any help appreciated. It is 18cm tall and the base is 9.5cm square.

Hi , Is this all glass ? The base looks like it could be bakelite ?

I think it is all glass. When I first saw it my thought was bakelite but it was cool to the touch and very heavy. I would include more pictures but the site limits to four.

I could well be wrong and often am but Bakelite can be heavy and cold to touch . There are simple tests to try if you google it . The more I look at it the more I'm convinced you have a very very nice butterscotch bakelite lamp  .

You can add a reply to your post and add more pics. It is 4 per post not 4 per topic. :)

If you can lose the white background and make it so the whole image is around 700 pixels on its longest edge and save for web the pics should fit our size limits.

If you need help in resizing pics I can do so for you.

Not the first time I was wrong. My initial instinct was bakelite and looks like that is the case. Thanks for the help.

Listed on Ebay.

Images resized and added. Sorry for delay, hotmail in its wisdom dumped your email in the Junk / Spam bin and I've only just spotted it!  As this is now thought not to be a glass lamp but bakelite it's OT for this forum, but I'll leave it here for a reference for a couple of days so members have the chance to compare glass and bakelite lamps!
