Your Best Murano Bargain!

My best 'bargain' is this 1950s geode bowl.  And yes, I know its damaged, but to me it doesn't matter a fig - I just love it anyway.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y195/glassie/50sMuranogeodebowl.jpg

I spotted it in a charity shop for 75p or a £1.  When I went to pay for it, the shop assistant said that it shouldn't have been put out for sale because it had a couple of chips on it and that he couldn't sell it to me.  Something to do with Health & Safety rules   However, he said I could have it for free :P   It would have been dumped in a skip otherwise.

So, not looking a gift horse in the mouth, I more than happily accepted it and bought a couple of other items as recompense.

My best buy was a large signed Venini hollow egg. I paid $15.00 Canadian for it. I sold it a few years ago.

Max..I love those birds!

Im new here so hope you don't mind my sharing   I purchased a beautiful lamp for $10.00 U.S at a TS it was so dirty filthy the TS couldn't see underneath the scum I guess? If they had cleaned it maybe they would have noticed it may be a special piece? maybe not! lol Hope they continue to "overlook" old Italian glass. This piece is much to large my house but if I had the room it wouldn't be leaving.

Hello Atruheart
This is Javier (svazzo). I edited your post to show just the photo of the lamp. If you want to put a link to any auction, please do so on the Glass Market Place section. Thanks.

Anne,
I think the lesson for them should be to CLEAN their items first! LOL I walked up to this lamp, used my fingernail (YUCK!) and scraped the grime away in one little area. I then asked "how much for this old lamp?" the girl says 10 dollars...??? I grabbed it pulled out the money and ran to my truck. LOL

Atru, I have just found a picture of your lamp in Nigel Benson's book Miller's Glass of the 50's and 60's - a collector's guide - page 56. The book says the technique was introduced by Ercole Barovier in the 1950's and is known as the Coro d'orta and was also used for bowls and vases, but that not all pieces in this style are by Barovier as it was much-copied by other factories.

Maybe Nigel has a typo Anne.  As far as I know, it's 'Cordonato d'oro'.  :?

Oh dear, I'm sticking my head above the parapet again...hope it's not chopped off!

I bought this the other day... I still don't know if it is a good deal or not...

I can't seem to work out how much it might be worth  :(
