Venini Velato ? paper label Age- ID - value anyone?
« on: June 22, 2006, 10:12:31 PM »
Hi,

Can anyone help me ID the age / value?  I think it is Velato 1950-60?

Thanks for anything you can add/subtract from my best guess.

(I added the paper label to the murano label section for reference - what a great idea!!)

I see lots of kind people took the time to view my photos to see if they could help me.  Thank you.  You people are so nice!

After looking in every book I could find / searching the web I finally found a photo of this color/finish in the collection of Venini's daughter:

  http://www.hot-glass.com/incve.htm

Does it look like a chunk of glass is missing on the neck of that decanter??

So I sent photos to Wright auctions and will post any updates.

If anyone saw my ebay ad - let me plead temporary insanity and I will spare you the story.

Thanks again!  Wanda

Hello again,

For anyone who might come across something similar;
Wright auctions responded to my consignment inquiry with an estimate
$2,000 - $3,000.

Bye for now,

Wanda

What confused me was that the piece shown from the Venini collection was an inciso piece which is a finish with a striated surface cut into the glass whereas Wandas vase appears to have a smooth satin finish with no inciso work at all.
The style and label suggests a date of around 1956 but certainly not one of the more common Venini designs.

Hi.

I'm glad this of interest.  No problem with not getting response the first time.

Perhaps it's the only one left with a label.  They come off so easily (I nearly washed this one off).     the tape seemed like such a good idea at the time....

The decanter in Anna's colleciton is the closest thing I could find.  I guess I could send a photo of this to the museum and ask them to forward it to Anna if they feel it is appropriate.

Sorry the photos did not show the wheel etched finish more clearly - this backlit photo is better.  Not sure if this is inciso or the finer "velato" finish.

I'm sure it's not Inciso and go with your initials thoughts towards Velato. The cut on inciso pieces and the resultant effect was best described by Laura on her web site as creating the image where the colour appears to float within the glass, When the light is better tomorrow I'll post a piccy of my inciso decanter and I think you'll see the difference.

Definitely not inciso with those fine cuts. The inciso is always horizontal as well.
