West German 1978 Studio Glass bowl for J.H Benecke Gmba
« on: July 12, 2015, 05:01:23 PM »
ID help appreciated here please. Looks like this bowl has been made for the leather/ vinyl company of J.H Benecke of Hannover. It appears to be signed round the edge Studio Ahus 1978 "Glacier" but I can't decipher the rest of the writing. I've added two images of the signature area. This measures 4ins high x 6 1/2ins wide and weighs 1.5kg. Many thanks.

Studio Åhus is Swedish, perhaps the designer's name after Glacier. Another photo of the last two words would be useful.

Silly me - listed in the wrong section. Thanks John. Looks like Hanne Dreutler to me. Listed in wrong section but I wonder why the bowl has the German company name on it. Maybe some sort of award although nothing on the company's history page although I see they did vehicle upholstery/ trim at that time. http://www.benecke-kaliko.com/pages/benecke-kaliko/history/history_en.html

Easily done... The letters in the centre of the vase are all in capitals, could it be a different hand to the rest of it?

The Hs in Hanna and Hannover are quite different, you should be able to make a direct comparison between the Gs, As and Es too.

Just to be correct: GmbH (not Gmba) = Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung (Limited Company).

I've had pieces before which have had their previous owner's name and address etched on them with a diamond pointed pen.
