Vintage Murano fish lamp
« on: August 19, 2015, 04:40:27 PM »
Hi, newbie here so apologies if I'm messaging in the wrong place.

I'd be grateful if someone can give me any more information about this delightful lamp (ok, I am struggling to conceal my sarcasm, it isn't my cup of tea).

I think it is Murano and has provenance from at least the 1940s, possibly earlier.
Although dusty, the glass is in very good condition.

I have seen something very similar on ebay with a substantial price-tag but no evidence of what it sold for, if it did. I have also seen ones with a plain flared base which I suspect are more recent and have a more modest price.

It is in the Guildford area if anyone can suggest a trustworthy dealer to approach.

Thanks

Matt

Hi and welcome to the board! :)

Here is a little info on these dolphin lamp bases, I think not easy to attribute with certainty >> http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,21556.0.html

Thanks Michael, it certainly looks the same.
A shame that the links on that thread are dead now.

As soon as I see one of these I think Archimede Seguso BUT I have never seen one of his with this base. So given that much of Murano stuff is copied I am not so sure about yours.

This is mine
Clean and Crisp a Murano twist.
Archimede tops my list.

Thanks Ardy,

I can see there are considerable style differences between the one I am discussing and yours.
How old is yours?
Do you know of any good reference sources?

Matt
