Vasart or Monart lamp base? ID = Strathearn
« on: October 12, 2015, 09:14:13 PM »
I bought it thinking Vasart but my experience of handling both Vasart and Monart is very limited, any help would be most welcome.

Thick glass and so heavy, 19 cm tall, 16cm diameter, the bulb holder looks to be next to new.

Though the decoration on your lamp base is in the Ysart style, IMHO it is neither Monart or Vasart.
Other possible makers are Strathearn or Perthshire Paperweights.

I rather agree with Gary, but I can't really put my finger on it as to why. The colours mostly, that sort of "bright" combination isn't really Monart-y or Vasart-y, to my eyes.

The green is a more Vasart-y than Monart-y, shade but not with such, or so many, contrasting colours. The very bold, tight swirls around a specific circumference are more Strathearn-y or Perthshire-y.

And it doesn't really look a Monart-y or Vasart-y lamp shape.
That's just what my guts think. They might be wrong.

Hi John
There are a few reasons why I believe it is not Monart.
There is no corresponding shape in any of the Monart catalogues.
All Monart lamp bases had a light fitting inside the base. It appears on your one that there is only one light fitting, which is on top of your lamp base.
No Monart lamp base that I have seen has a side cable entry.
Any one of these reasons on its own, would make me think twice about it being Monart.
Could you post a clearer photo of the base, to include the pontil scar.

Thanks Sue and Gary, I could not find this shape either. There is no pontil scar, no need with a cut rim (the base is gently indented), definitely no internal fitting and too small a hole at the top to squeeze a bulb through.

So Perthshire or Strathearn then as possibilities, perhaps also Chic Young and one or two others.

Thank you.

I have a sorry tale to tell... I accidentally smashed this lamp when the flex got caught on a piece of furniture I was moving. It fell onto a concrete floor smashing into a myriad of small thick shards. I felt sick...
