Bohemian paperweight with military image
« on: December 13, 2015, 09:11:02 PM »
I think I posted this years ago but can't find the original post.  I have better pictures now and would like any information about the origin or the subject.

The paperweight has a portrait with a uniform of some sort.  I think it might be a hand painted image.  My assumption is German or Silesian in origin, but have no comparable items to firm that attribution.  The paperweight is 2 1/2" diameter by 1 3/4" high.

Any help is appreciated.  Thank you.

Hi Allan

It is worth considering Belgium too - similar spatter ground is found in Belgian paperweights,  But I think they key will be identifying the distinctive uniform and pill box hat (which I cannot help with...).

Could the weight date from around 1870 ? The uniform might be something to do with the Franco - Prussian war ? Only a wild guess !

This could be an entire red-herring !

Interesting.  I wish I could put a date on it or a location, but Germany seems right.
