Unknown green uranium bowl?
« on: August 26, 2015, 02:41:28 PM »
Hi, I bought this bowl today, it's in what I think is its original box. It's nine cms tall, it's heavy and quite thick. Beveled round the outside top edge, and a very smooth bottom. 😃  It glows yellow under UV light. It has a round gold foil label that says "foreign", I don't know where to start looking for an ID. I thought maybe Czech but I really don't have a clue. Any thought. Appreciated. Thanks Cheryl.

If it glows yellow, it's not uranium and if the label says Foreign, it's likely to be German or Japanese, as these were not countries to use on post-war labels in the UK if you wanted to sell an item.

I see these bowls quite regularly here in Vienna, my guess would be Czech.
Reminds me very much of my Inwald vase by Rudolf Schrötter (which is Uranium glass btw).
Has a flat polished base as well...

I waited till it got dark last night to see if I got better results under the lamp. If anything it was less yellow only showing on the thickest parts of the glass. I tried to take a photo but probably due to the lack of light it wouldn't take a good picture. I think I have convinced myself it's not uranium although the glass does have a glowing look in daylight.  I get easily confused with this. I have some uranium glass which glows really well under UV light and this bowl is has a poor result in comparison.    Cheryl

Sounds like it isn't uranium to me too. What is the base like? Is it just flat or is it polished flat

The base is polished, nice and flat.      Cheryl
