Topic: Aseda Brown Decanter & Glasses

Elegant, lovely, clean lined decanter I picked up in a local shop last week.
Two days ago I found the two glasses in a different local shop.

Hello there HoneyBee. I'm sorry to have to maybe disapoint You a little. This decanter is Åseda as You say but unfortunately not by Bo Borgström. This model came before Bo was hired as
designer for the glasscompany. The modelnumber is 902 and it is a cordialset. It came in a box with decanter and 6 glasses and the colours was clearglass, green, brown and orange. Later it came in blue aswell. It was also made as a martiniset, with a little differnce in size of the decanter and a different stopper.

I must correct myself. This is the martini decanter and the glasses belongs to the cordialset. The martiniglasses are smaller. You can see the model at the picture

Yes the pieces I posted are Aseda.

Yes it is a cordial decanter.

The glasses are more of a size and shape of a whiskey glass.
This is how my husband & I use them and they are pure pleasure
to handle and drink from.

Yes I know there exists Martini Pitchers and martini glasses.

The photo you shared - that is the first I have seen the very small cordial glasses.
Thank you for posting the image. It is nice to see the martini glasses and cordials
side by side for comparison.
Here are pictures of the decanter next to the glasses I have. We can see the
three different glasses next to the same decanter now. The stem cordial glass
is from a different set but the only other brown glass I have so I popped it in
photo.

I don't know if the size & shape glasses ever came with this particular decanter
but there are a couple sets for sale with this decanter & these glasses together.
I don't care. I just know they are the same glass company and artists design so
I have mine together.

Every reference of Aseda and the artists that created for the company
credit Bo Borgstrom as being responsible for this design and in particular
the bulbous piece of glass as a base. That he is "famous" for this foot design.

Hi again. Please take no offense of my writing about this decanter.

First the foot of Your decanter is called "Elco-foot" and was designed by, at that time the CEO, Elving Conradsson. He made this thinner waves for the foot instead of the older
version with thicker waves, if You follow me.

It is often wrongly attributed to Bo B, even in papers like Leslie and Pina, but the only time these cordial/martini decanters can be attributed to Bo B is when they are in
blue and green combination.

Oh gotcha. No offence just total confusion.  I would have to see bases side by side to really see the difference
you describe but I'll take your word for it 

So Bo made the green & blue ones but the rest were his design but made by some other glass worker at Aseda?
Is that more accurate?

The originaldecanters are not mentioned with a specific desginer. I can only guess that it might have been some of the earlier "Masters of the glassmill".

And no - Bo did not design the decanters - he just made that colour combination to his design. As You see at the picture with the blue/green items, they are all Bo's design.

The decanters, glasses and some of the bowls had similar numbers and it was after the hiring of Bo B that there was a more accurat numbering of the items for recognition. I will post a couple of pictures so You can see the differences between the "old foot" and the "Elco-foot" The bowl to the left and back have the older foot and the ones to the right has the Elco-foot.

This picture is also from my cataloug from the company and here You can see the varieties. They all have the number 902 so that can be a little confusing. The one to the left is the Wineset, and the decanter shall be ca 320 mm of height. The one in the middle is the Cordialset, and the heigt shall be ca 275 mm of height. The one to the right is the Martiniset, it came with a teakstirrer. The height shall be 260 mm. And then there is the sugar and creamer set.
I hope that this will make it a little easier than my earlier try of explanation.

I can see the differences in the "foot" in the first photo you posted. That's perfect.

I wondered if the glasses I bought were intended for wine.
They are going to be our whiskey glasses.

So I should just think of and label these as Aseda glass and leave it at that?
