Large dark red bowl, bubbles and gold aventurine rim
« on: April 13, 2016, 08:15:19 PM »
Hi,I bought this bowl at the local car boot today. Its a big thing at 12 inches. Its darker than the photos show being more ruby red. Oval shaped controlled bubbles with a clear rim with gold adventurine in the rim only. It has ribs on the underside, a polished base with some tool marks. Looks gorgeous in the sunshine. Not my usual sort of thing, but will be keeping it.  Does anyone know where it was made please?   Any comments welcome,  Cheryl.

Hi Cheryl, your bowl was made in Murano, although quite a few companies produced very similar pieces.

Well that makes sense Ivo, I suspect there may be some sellers who won't like the news though!

This stuff has never seemed quite right for Murano IMO: quality not quite up to it and way too much about

It was (is?) made in a whole host of shapes, various bowls predominating but there are also plenty of vases in red glass with clear twiddly handles, the sparse use of gold leaf is another feature. Nothing wrong with them at all, I did have a couple of baskets on my stall but I think I only have the one left now.
