not going to argue with you m ;D  -  but is it not true that with opaline glass, whatever the base colour, you would always get the sunset glow in view of the calcined bone ash, a feature which is absent in plain uranium glass?

No, it's not true as far as I know  :)   It is my understanding from reading a variety of information, that the 'sunset glow' is possibly dependent  on what opacifier was used in the batch (not always bone ash).
(and perhaps dependent on other chemicals ingredients added to the batch as well as the opacifier ... and it might also depend on how the glass was cooled or reheated in conjunction with the type of opacifier, I don't know).
(no quote please, that is just my understanding).

So for example, this piece is definitely without any shadow of a doubt, an old (probably c.1840/50)piece of opaline (coloured, translucent, colour mixed in the batch) glass .... it has no glow as far as I remember

An image of the base showing the polished pontil mark and one with my other bottle vases. The colours look great together even though the periods clash.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out.
