2 flowered weight ?
« on: June 23, 2016, 01:41:20 PM »
HI, found this in a junk shop in the USA last week and thought it looked interesting weighs 700gr and 7.5cm dia x 9cm tall with a flat ground and polished base and has controlled bubbles over the whole weight. Have seen Murano weights with a similar internal block for the flowers to sit in but really not sure.
Many thanks in advance.

Well after searching through the Caithness books along with other leads I contacted Caithness customer services who said it could be a Caithness product but their archived information does not go back far enough them to confirm this and identify it.
Its is similar to Fantasia with the small bubble on the tip of each petal but the set up all round is different  internal block base, flowers & colours.
Still a mystery

Hi.  It is similar to the Jack Allan 'Flower in the Rain' design made for Caithness - but other Scottish makers and Murano made similar pieces; however, that flower looks quite like Murano to me.  Whoever made it, it is a competent 'Flower in the Rain' paperweight, and probably of similar (but modest) value regardless of source.

I would agree with Alan: the basic design is the Flower in the Rain type - but I don't think it's a Caithness production item: the flower leaves look unfamiliar and the "flower pot" is rather narrow.  I cannot exclude a frigger, but tend towards another maker, Murano being a possibility.

Thanks Wuff I leaned towards murano initially looking at the internal flower pot but again the bubbles on the end of the leaves looked Caithness.
Many thanks

Caithness Flower in the Rain has many more much smaller and tidier bubbles and five petals, not six

For comparison purposes, here is a FLOWER-IN-THE-RAIN photo of one from our collection.
