ID help: 4 leaf clover pontil mark #2 - vase
« on: July 23, 2016, 05:49:27 AM »
OK, two threads relating to a common 4 leaf clover pontil scar today.
Please excuse the copy/paste text here. I'm avoiding two items in the one thread trap.

This, a nice recent find vase, no makers engraved markings.
H: 120mm
Dia: 95mm

I hazard a guess Australian production.

Likewise, seen discussion regarding that 4 leaf clover technique used by an Australian artist. Perhaps that was an ambit claim made by an ebay seller on a similarly unmarked piece.

So, same questions apply to bowl in other thread,

a) any ideas on who may  have made this piece? and,
b) has the 4 leaf clover pontil scar ever been attributed to a specific artists [or school of artists] work?
So it goes.

This one looks like Adrian Sankey's work to me. If so it's British rather than Australian.

OK, I take a google look at what he has produced.

Does that apply to the other piece [bowl] ?
Is that due to that pontil scar or the feathered trail decoration?
So it goes.

No idea about the other bowl I'm afraid. I wouldn't be surprised if the two items are from the different makers.

I suggested Adrian Sankey for this piece based on the shape, the pulled loop design, and the way the decoration stops at the neck. I had a very similar vase by him only in clear with white loops. I don't know how the pontil mark was finished though as my vase had a label over the mark.

Edited to add:
Here's another Adrian Sankey vase clearly showing a four-point pontil scar http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,39369

Thanks for that ID.
Sure looks to be as you suggest.
Shame no label remained.... would have avoided confusion.
