Bohemian 13" triangular twisted vase
« on: August 21, 2016, 01:58:25 PM »
Hi Guys, thanks for looking.
I have been trying to research this lovely vase which 13" tall and has an iridescence to it.
The base has a ground and highly polished pontil and has age related wear.
This vase looks the shape of LOETZ ‘Chine’ Vase, seen here, http://www.nouveauglass.co.uk/archived/loetz-chine-vase-2/
Chine is the name for this type of applied decoration which my vase does not have.
Is this Loetz or something else? Does it date from 1900?
Cheers Wolfie

From your link I discovered it's called a propellor vase, so I searched for "Loetz propellor" in images and found this Loetz, sessessionist or Christopher Dresser, take your pick.

I'm sure I have seen the same texture your vase is, on a bit of Loetz before, Wolfie. Not my area, I have no evidence, but I'm sure you're right.

A-ha. Got a better link here. It shows a copy of the design drawing.

The textured pattern must be Rusticana: http://www.loetz.com/decors-a-z/rusticana/crete-rusticana

The round almost eye or knot like part of the pattern can vary a lot in definition, sometimes quite prominent while other examples can be much fainter.
