Back shot would be useful instead of a base in this case. Paul Ysart did some like that too but with slightly more elaborate blob 8)

I think the Marcel weight is a standard European giftware from around the 1910 to 1930 period. From Peter Von Brackel's book, covering all sorts of European wieghts, this type could be from Thuringia or Silesia (or other places).

It might possibly be early 20 century America!
