Iridescent kluk kluk decanter... ?
« on: July 18, 2006, 11:58:38 PM »
A recent find was an iridescent kluk kluk decanter and six wine glasses to match. There's no clue on any of them as to who they are by. Can anyone identify maker and / or era please?
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

I'm curious to know if these fall within the  Carnival category!

Oh, I've seen that exact same stopper on an amber flashed kuttrolf and wine glass set with engraved berries and vines which I assumed was Bohemian.

I've always kicked myself for not buying it at the time, because it wasn't expensive. *sigh*

Anyway, it could easily be a generic stopper shape, but it might be a starting point.

It's one of those pieces that are sort-of "on the cusp". Classic Carnival collectors would probably not class it as Carnival. But those who enjoy unusual items, that are not in the mainstream, may well want to claim it as such.

Interesting items, Anne.

Ivo, I wondered the same thing. :)

Nic, thank you, it's a starting point for sure. I've seen similar stoppers somewhere as well but am blowed if I can recall where or when! :(

Glen, also thank you. You may have guessed that my mother, who collects Carnival in a small way, absolutely loved it - it may well end up there in due course! Meanwhile, I like it as it's different. :)

I have finally found someone selling the same slightly wonky shaped kluk kluk decanter but with a slightly less-flared top than mine and smaller overall, but with the same-shaped stopper!  :o

But... the one I have found is clear glass with enamel designs and is described, interestingly, as
"Antique Dutch Danish Mosser Art Glass Pinched Decanter Perfume Bottle with Crown Stopper HOLMEGAARD Enamel Decor" which doesn't help much with finding out who made it. The seller, however, is in The Netherlands in case that is useful in pinning this down... but then I find another decanter with similar size/decoration and same stopper on eBay with a seller in Huntersville, North Carolina, so perhaps that's not helpful!

Can anyone throw more light on the origins of my decanter please, and possibly the one linked (without being critical of the seller)?  Ta!  8)

You may not be aware Anne that in the USA some rural towns are based on substantial groups of European migrants settling together.  It is not beyond possibility that your US version comes from a Dutch town.  I know for example Pella in Iowa is for example as we went there in 2006.  It even has a very large windmill.

Anne Faglaviks glasbruk, I think iirc, made that high sheen apricot iridencent glass.
They might be worth investigating.
