HELP IDENTIFY PAIR OF EARLY AMERICAN CUT GLASS COMPOTES
« on: October 10, 2016, 01:12:43 PM »
Hello all and thanks in advance for any help.......I put a standard beer can for scale so you can see how massive this pair is...see photo of the strong natural wear pattern on the base suggesting well over 100 years old probably more like 200 plus years old...if you look at the finials they are different heights and thickness so i feel these pieces are hand blown and then cut from top to bottom..the scrolled edge on the bowl in photo 3 was not pressed or molded it was no doubt hand cut..the covers sit inside the bowls ..the height is approx 15 inches....ive been told they are compotes - urns - jars ????? also ive been told they are american such as BOSTON SANDWICH but was also told they are early unmarked BACCARAT and several other glass companies....ive looks all over to find something that comes close but have come up empty ...when i look at them i see them on a fire place mantle in a early us presidents home.....thanks again for your help    Andy ,,,,,,,,

I saw a pair virtually identical to these in a shop in Honiton, Devon, UK. The seller thought they were probably Irish, 1850 or earlier, but wasn't sure either!

Are they not what are called Pokals?
I can't help with anything else, old, clear and cut is not my area.
