Apparently Mdina, Azurene-like, heavy vase
« on: October 18, 2016, 11:30:47 PM »
I recently acquired this heavy vase with a finish similar to silver foil of IOW Azurene. The glass is deep blue, 16 cm high and 10 cm maximum diameter. It has what appears to be 'Mdina' (more like 'Mdino') and possibly initials of the maker marked on the base. I have never seen this finish in a Mdina piece, but it could have been an attempt to emulate Isle of Wight Studio Glass 'Azurene' in the late 1970s. My initial thought was that the initials were 'eb' for Ettore Boffo, but that is unlikely since Ettore died in 1971, if I recall correctly.

Has any Mdina collector seen anything similar to this vase? Thanks.

Anton

Perhaps the initials are the date 04 or 06

I've got gold and silver foiled pieces, all in the later jewell-like blue. A stoppered perfume, (with matched ground stopper) and a medium large globe.
They're later than the '70s. I'd think well into the late '80s/'90s at earliest. I've seen them with plastic labels.
The Mdina script on the base of my large globe is unusual, all in capital letters. No date on mine, which is what I, like Christine, think is a date.

Definitely Mdina, that barrel shape is found with other colours too.

This bottle uses gold leaf.

 ;) No wonder I couldn't find it. :-[
The medium-large globe I do still have has both silver and gold on it.

Definitely much later than the Boffo period, I think 2004 would be a good guess :)
