Opaline Ivy Vase Molded Enamelled 17"
« on: November 08, 2016, 08:48:12 PM »
Dear All,

Thought this might be of interest. 17" tall ( V Large ) with ground pontil to the base. First thoughts were French, second Baccarat or Josephinehutte...your thoughts please?

Kind Regards

Andrew

I believe Baccarat did something similar. This décor is called 'Pampres de Vigne'. Several different versions on the net, a lot of them at Drouot auction house, but you need to be registered to see the images larger. ::)

Dear Anne,

thank you...I'd found smaller vases with similar styles by Baccarat though with a different foliage construct and blue enameling.

It's a big lump of glass.  :)

The vase in the first link is labelled and 3" smaller, the second one even smaller ... i'm not sure if the pattern in the 1st is similar due to some loss of the gold décor, but it has the tendrils on the branches too. You've got the vase in hands, so to speak, so you can compare it better.

I've noticed some adds mentioning an 1855 catalogue but unfortunately I can't confirm that.

Dear Anne,

without doubt the former link of the two is most representative as I hold it and look at them.... though quite a scalier difference in the size....somebody has designed and had built a number of molds to create these vases. To make one this size will have been a major undertaking and I would imagine will have needed a receptive market to absorb them. As such you'd expect to see a few more in order to justify the NRE's ( Non Recurring Engineering Cost ) associated with such a creation.

Thank you for your feedback and interest.  :D

With kind regards

Andrew

I noticed this page when I was looking for something else, maybe you can compare the patterns top left and bottom right.

Baccarat 1865 page (planche) 37 - Vases de Fantaisie

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to show an image from this site, I couldn't find anything about copyright, if not then could a mod please remove it?

Dear Anne,

wow, you are a star. So well spotted. It's the one in the top left. Rotating the vase through 360 and I can line up the pattern perfectly. Thank you so very much.

May I wish you a very happy Christmas.

Kind regards

Andrew

No problem.

It says above the vase 'Vase moulé à guirlande en spirale', above that there's  some scribbling, I guess sizes,  but I can't read it. Perhaps you can enhance it yourself, if you like.

Have a great x-mas yourself too.
