Mdina glass bowl signature
« on: February 08, 2017, 04:09:43 PM »
Bought this unusual glass bowl - clearly marked "Mdina Glass Malta"
Has a signature underneath, unfortunately I don't believe its by any of the Harris'
Does anyone recognise it?
Any idea on pattern name or possible dates?
Thanks in advance

Possibly some time up to ~ '77-ish?
The "signature" is in Marie's writing.
None of the "artist" signed pieces from Mdina are actually artist signed, apart from the odd one by Michael Harris.

Certain good peices were deemed good enough to merit an "artist signature", but these artist scribbles were added by Eric Dobson (mostly) or Marie.
We don't know what they're supposed to read.

This "three spirals" design was in production while Boffo was still there. It is found on chargers like yours, "bullet" bowls and I have a large Beaked vase, by Boffo with this pattern on.

Yes, Sue is spot on here, its defo not a Dobson sig and the G of glass is Marie shaped. To me the sig looks thicker than I would normally expect to see for mid 1970s, a wide dremel tool was used here.
Something you like, mail me! :)

But the three spirals pattern is fairly scarce, I do not think it was still produced in the '80s. I reckon it only lasted about as long as Boffo did.

Are these "artist signatures" not all confined to pre-'78-9?
(sorry. my memory is failing me)
