Hi Guys, I have seen these before but never with a black base, I think this early. I presume Orrefors, help to confirm this and details of sig would be great :) TIA, Wolfie

I believe the 'H' would be for Edward Hald and the 'U' for uncut smooth glass.

Not sure about the date. The date number 139 appears to refer to a Hald design for the year 1920. However not sure about the significance of the /2 part of the code, from memory it may well mean that this example was produced at a later date based on Hald's original 1920 design. Hopefully someone will confirm the last part! Hope this helps a little.

Edit: I think the 'U' may actually refer to 'Hand Formed' rather than 'Uncut'. This Hald design would therefore originally date to 1932, however as previously mentioned, I suspect the last part of the code /2 may mean this was produced  at a later date based on Hald's original 1932 design.

The items with black bases were generally 1930s?

Unsure about the significance of the black base I'm afraid.

I suspect the production date may be more recent than the design date, many designs seem to have been produced over fairly long periods or even brought back into production after an absence.
