Silver headed bird. ID = Gambaro and Poggi
« on: February 22, 2017, 06:19:14 AM »
Could anyone give me any information about this glass bird with a silver head? The glass surface is scavo or acid etched with what looks like two applications of an aurene type spray. The silver hallmark is Italian from Padova, Veneto but there is a blank where the registration usually is (hallmark = "925" in an elipse beside a polygon containing a "star" on the LHS and "PD" on the RHS). The bird size is 100mm long. There are no markings on the glass. Photos attached.

For completeness sake; Luciano Gambaro advised that it is a Gambaro and Poggi bird with the silver head made by Greggio of Padova (Reg No 29).

Thank you for returning to let us know.  Much appreciated.  It's a really pretty piece - lovely colour.  The silver is silver leaf I think.  Is it iridescent on the whole body as well?

Thanks for your comment. Sorry about the tardy reply.
The iridescence is in two narrow overlapping bands, sprayed from head to tail. One is a gold colour (left hand side) and one a copper colour (right hand side).
Kind regards,
Terry
