Sowerby Tynesyde Label Found on Mystery Trinket Set 175!
« on: April 13, 2017, 12:35:11 AM »
I am stuck for where to look next...   in the Sowerby catalogue list 41 page 6 (hand-dated 1960s on the cover) there are just two trinket sets mentioned.  The 2638 - 5 piece in pink and pink matt, and the 2707 - 5 piece set in flint (clear).

The illustration in the catalogue is very poor and I cannot make out what either set looks like from it, but we do have the 2638 from previous catalogues. However, the 2707 does not show up in the earlier catalogues on 20th century glass, and I cannot find it mentioned on either of the two Sowerby CDs from Glen Thistlewood, nor anywhere else...  so, has anyone seen a reference to the Sowerby pattern 2707 anywhere else please?
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd

Sowerby Tynesyde Label Found on Mystery Trinket Set 175!
« Reply #1 on: April 09, 2021, 08:07:05 PM »
I happily purchased this clear tray from Mystery Trinket Set 175 with a "Sowerbys Tynesyde Glassware Made in England" label right in the middle.

I have considered the set to be made by Sowerby for years due to the candlesticks being identical to Sowerby Set 2501 but now we have proof!

I suppose it could be Tynesyde #5 on GTS.

NB Anne there is a photo of a pair of Amber Bagley Victoria (2) candlesticks included in the Mystery 175 linked set in error.
NNB I have a Bagley Victoria (2) set in Green in the post to me, I know the set is supposed to come in pink only but apparantly not.
Please help identify Mystery Glass Trinket Sets

Hi Jayne, thank you for your super labelled photos;  sadly this pattern still eludes me, despite all the fab catalogues that Mike Tomlin has added to his website and kindly shared with us.  It is good to know that it is Sowerby though: now to find it in a catalogue!

PS I'm still looking into the Bagley / Sowerby small candlestick lookalikes.

A bit of progress on the 2707 mystery:  in the 1960 Sowerby catalogue there is a 2707 bowl, which appears to be the same pattern as Mystery #175, which we now know is also Sowerby. So, comparing the bowl pattern with the base pattern of Mystery #175  I think that it may be our missing 2707 pattern trinket set!
