Glen, after an hour of searching on the various carnival glass boards,  (including yours of course   ) I have to admit defeat, and ask you if you know the name and maker of this one?

thanks if you do...

Hi - it's Imperial's "Shell and Sand" bowl in Classic Carnival. A gorgeous rich marigold iridescence. What a splendid piece of glass. Imperial is always "classy" stuff.

Thank you Glen!  I knew you wouldn't let me down!

I did manage to ID another 6 pieces all by my self... including THREE I knew without looking them up!  I'm learning, see!

There's a pretty black amethyst Northwood Strawberry bowl in the same auction....
Thank you very much!

You're very welcome, Lynne

Good luck at the auction if you're hoping to buy. The black amethyst Strawberry bowl sounds delicious.....even better if it is stippled.

Here it is... yes, stippled.

I can't remember the back though, it is definitely not basket weave, but then I read about a ribbed pattern, and suddenly I couldn't remember if it was that or plain. So I'll have to have another look before I bid!

Hi Lynne - first of all, HUGE Congratulations at getting them all.

Now, how rare is a ribbed back? On a stippled Strawberry, funnily enough that is the back pattern that is mostly seen. On the unstippled pieces there are possibly more basketweave backs. Just to mis-prove that, my stippled Strawberry bowl has a basketweave back!

It's more a matter of curiosity really - I don't think it would really make a big difference to the value. What is far more important is that it is stippled. The stippled pieces (same in other patterns where there are unstippled and stippled variants) are always more sought after because - well - they look better. Stippling refracts the light more and makes the iridescence showier.

A great buy. Well done and my congratulations again.

Hmmmm, as far as iridescence goes, now this one is VERY dark though, so not much iridescence on the front other than a band around the edge, the back has a lot more.  I quite like the black look it gives to it.

As for the Shell and Sand, is this what you mean when you talk about a radium finish - my pictures have even brighter iridescence than the one taken at the auction house. Look at this one:

really stunning
Thank you very much!
