is this Rindskopf carnival glass or a copy?
« on: July 29, 2006, 05:25:41 PM »
I have bought some carnival glass today, among it a pair of 6 inch vases, that seem to match the picture of the Rindskopf Vining Leaf vase on David Doty's site, EXCEPT that on mine the leaf frieze is engraved into a frosted panel, and the panel shown in the website pic seems to be raised out of a smooth background.

So, is this Rindskopf or a cheaper copy?

Thank you very much!

First of all, that's a beautiful vase. Again, many congratulations.

It is the pattern known as "Vining Leaf" as you note. The vase is known in both the frosted band and non-frosted band variations. In our "Century of Carnival Glass" we show a pair of the frosted band "Vining Leaf" vases (in the snow....just for a topical touch!).

But, it is not absolutely attributed to Rindskopf. In "Century" we have it listed in the section on "Possible Rindskopf Patterns". We say why we think it could be Rindskopf, but there is currently no documentary proof to make the leap to fully attribute.

So, it is the frosted Vining Leaf - European - very likely Czech and possibly Rindskopf. Beyond that - at the moment - it is not possible to say.

Beautiful vase. Really lovely. Well done.

Thanks very much Glen,, very interesting.  And yes, it is lovely.

In fact the whole batch I got today was lovely.  The iridescence (is that a word btw? I can find iridescent in the dictionary but not iridescence.... did I make it up??   ) on some of them is startlingly lovely.

I'll pop the links in the market place when they are on, so you can see the pictures there.

And by the way, if any of my pictures would be useful for your site, do let me know and I will happily send you the full 2mb version for you to optimise as you wish.
Thank you very much!

Hi Lynne - yes "iridescence" definitely is a word

I would certainly like a photo of the Vining Leaf vase - thank you so much. The 2 meg size is a bit on the big side - one round about 500 kb is easier for me to deal with. I'll acknowledge your photo as yours, naturally, when I post it on the website. If you could let me know how you want your name to appear, when you email the jpg, that would be great.

You can get a link to my email address off my main home page.

Thanks, Lynne.

Whilst I have it I'll take a few more shots and see how tight I can get the focus, the one I have is fine for selling, but could do with being a bit nicer.
Thank you very much!
