Monart or Vasart vase?
« on: August 23, 2017, 08:34:52 AM »
Hi again, just seen this advertised for sale as Monart and was trying to figure if it is indeed a Monart or a Vasart piece. It measures 8 inches high.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i am looking at buying this.
Thanks Paul.

I strongly suspect Monart over Vasart.
Have you looked at the catalogues in "Scotland's Glass"?

http://scotlandsglass.co.uk/

Edited to add the link to the Ysart Glass catalogues. I can't find them from the Scotland's Glass homepage.

Hi Sue,
i did have a look and the shape looks like a Monart SA  and also Vasart V007.The base looks to be either early Monart has it does not seem to be polished/ground or Vasart. The colourway does seem to be Monart to me but that would be just a guess really.
I can see why it can be a bit of a mine field for the unwary/beginners buying this type of glass.
Thanks yet again for your help,Paul.

The colourway on this vase is complex - orange, yellow and clear blobs at the bottom, with aventurine and the darker colour at the top, this is more complex than most Vasart, my guts feel. It also has a delicacy about it that says Monart to me.
But is might just be exceptionally good Vasart.
We need a real Ysart person here, not a flaky, vague-around-the-edges one like me. ;D

Hi Sue,thanks again for your valued input,The last line in your reply made me laugh but i am sure it is not the case!
As the price is quite expensive (220 pounds) i obviously would need to know the difference.
Cheers Paul.
