Percival Vickers electric lamp shades
« on: August 23, 2017, 06:16:50 PM »
Picked up this example of an unregistered Percival Vickers electric light shade. It is listed as moulded pattern 47 in their 1902 Glass Shades catalog. It has 9 sides each ending in a shell / fin. Also known is a pattern 48 which is flared out even more (seen with and without fins), pattern 10 where the flaring out is minor, and pattern 9 where the fins seem to point slightly inwards in a narrow design.

This design is almost the same as their 1895 registration for an electric shade, 254406. You can see an example on the page below

https://sites.google.com/site/molwebbhistory/Home/registered-designs/percival-vickers-designs-by-date/percival-vickers-1893-1896

The registered piece is virtually identical except it has only one line of imitation diamond cutting, whereas the unregistered piece has two. I would guess the unregistered piece also dates from circa 1895, early for electric shades!

Well spotted, Neil.

Remarkable that items like this survive at all.

Fred.
