Mdina Whale
« on: November 01, 2017, 10:47:23 AM »
I think at last I have discovered the type of whale this Mdina glass sculpture represents. I recon it's a Cuvier's beaked Whale found in the Mediterranian sea. Quite rare but they sometimes end up stranded on the coast of Malta. They all seem to have a multitude of scratch marks over their body and the dorsal fin is positioned towards the tail end rather than being central .

Good sleuthing.......

These Whales are thought to be made by Vicente Boffo when he joined Mdina in the early 70's and sold by him in 'Kings Tobacconist'.

Here are two I have.

Thanks for posting your pic. Patrick . Great to see nature inspiring art in this way  :D

My whale was discovered by John and next to the whale was a Boffo fish ...also known to have been sold in King's Tobacconist but they both ended up together  in shop in Newport ,South Wales !
