Unknown ( ?? ) Clear Glass Horse Head
« on: November 04, 2017, 06:16:42 AM »
Hi - I found this the other day and have been looking around on the net.  I have found nothing yet to matvch it.   I have been looking around and seemed to have found every other Glass Horse head, except this one.  Help.....This glass horse kinda has a slight Green tinge to it. The bottom also does show wear.  Size is:

~ About 5 inches tall
~ About 4 wide
~ and the bottom base edges ( which is the widest point on it ) is about 3 inches across.  Anyone ???

Thanks
:fwr: Rose

Have you tried looking at it with a blacklight to see if it glows Rose? :)

@ Bruce - It could be, but I am not having any luck there either

@ Rosie - I had this for a while and had tested it before my light quit on me, No glow on it.  The only thing kinda close to it ( but different ears, mane, etc) is a Vannes Le Chatel French Art Glass 5” Crystal Horse Head Ornament.  See here So KINDA similar but not THE SAME...just the closest I have found

I wonder if it was made in Africa but I can't remember where or which company makes animals from recycled glass, even with a search

The company I believe you are thinking of is Ngwenya Glass in Swaziland, Christine.
To be honest I can't rule them out but I haven't seen anything as complicated as this from their glass shop... but it is well worth investigating.

The history of this Glass company is very interesting and if you go on line with Ngwenya Glass History,  you can read how a team of glass blowers from Sweden (Orrefors, I believe) went out to Swaziland to teach glassblowing using recycled glass in an attempt to help give work and export trade to the people there.

Children would scour the area looking for abandoned glass bottles to hand in and were rewarded with a small payment for them.

A positive outcome of this was that there were less bottles lying around in the bush and this significantly reduced the number of bushfires caused by the sun being focussed through the abandoned glass bottles.

A win-win situation. :)

Brief update... the company was Kosta Boda,  not Orrefors.

Here is the history link:

Thanks Gang for the info, I had a look around and did not see any like this, or with bases to them.  I still wonder IF it could belong to something like a Chess Set??  I can not see the Horses ( Knights ) to well in their pics/post - I wonder if someone could email them to ask what their Horse head look like in that set.  I am not on Etsy, so can not.

 See SEE LINK HERE

Just a thought.....???? but more ??? LOL

.....also, after replying to your other post above, i still was digging around.  Now I do not believe this is murano art glass................... BUT maybe my glass horse came off a certain type of boze bottle, as I just want to pass that on to you for another possible option.  Maybe it was on a bottle as a lid.

Kinda like THIS LINK HERE

>>>> Just throwing the idea out there, that maybe some other company once had these got a bottle top ???? but again ONLY a suggestion.  Thanks
