Huge Murano vase - generic?
« on: August 02, 2006, 04:08:54 PM »
Dear Javier

Just running this past you to check.    This is a monumental vase at 17" high - weighs a ton.  Full of dead spiders  :x and good wear to base.

Just a fairly generic piece of Murano, yes? <always hopeful     >

Hi Max,
The first impression I got was Chalet glass because of the color.
I havent seen many of their vases, but the bowls have that color, and also the twisted base and large flared arms. Maybe Laura can help us with this one too.

Thanks Javier & Paul.  I thought the orange was a little unusual too,  that's why I assumed it was a generic piece, but I'm certainly open to ideas.  The top finish looks Murano to me (teaching my Grandfather to suck eggs here Javier!     ), and it doesn't look like any Chalet glass I've seen...so far...    I'm not well versed on Chalet glass to be fair though. <nods>

It would be nice if Laura took a look too - many hands make light work!  :D

Hi,
I tell you generic Murano glassware at 99%.
The orange isn't so usual, but there are pieces made in that colour.
The shape is a classic of generic glass made by several different glassmakers during the last '50 years.

Sincerely

Alex

I just think the twist of the vase, color and general appearance looks different than the vintage Murano pieces i've seen with the "genuine hand made venetian glass" labels. I could be worong, just my thought on it.

Thanks for your thoughts Javier, we'd all be nowhere if we didn't state our opinions, and your input is very valuable to me.  Thank you also to Alex for taking the time to post your thoughts. xx

Nice to meet you obekosomatic, and welcome to the GMB.  :D
