Topic: Is this an Isle of Wight aurene elephants foot bowl/vase

Hello all.
I purchased this piece today knowing it was Isle of Wight and thinking aurene but unsure looking online if this is the piece referred to as an elephants foot bowl/vase.
Also what would the date be and is this a Harris piece.
I was hoping that when I put my hands on it from the shelf it would be signed but it’s isnt it only has a flame pontil mark.

Yes, definitely Aurene. I bought one for the museum a couple of weeks ago. This one here: http://iowstudioglass.wikidot.com/aurene. I am not sure when these elephant foot vases were made but probably early to mid-1970s.

Just to add, the flame mark impressed in a blob of glass usually means an early date of manufacture, perhaps 1974 or 1975.

I was just using your website and that exact page before posting.Great resource and a great site to use.Appreciated by many.
So this will be Harris and quite early.
The pics don’t capture the blue and the iridescence of the chloride streaks but it’s a beautiful thing and I’m pleased to own it if only for awhile.

That’s great.Its got the flame impressed I was hoping for the Harris signature but you cant have everything.

Michael Harris rarely signed his pieces, which make them more desirable to certain collectors. But the bowl speaks for itself, without the signature. Your bowl is a nice example, with strong colours. Elephant foot bowls are now getting harder to find.

The flame mark was used on all ranges produced until around 1978 and likely even as late as 1980 on tortoiseshell items.
