Topic: Murano basket salt?

Would appreciate some helpful pointers to the manufacturer of this little basket, I have found some others on the internet but none with a manufacturer, or purpose.
Is this a "salt"

Got one of those, always wondered where it was from and what it was for ?

My suspiscion is that these are Japanese. They also come without handles

Knew I had one somewhere, must have had this 15-20 years !
