Stuart drinking glasses id and info needed.
« on: March 22, 2018, 06:35:00 AM »
Hi,can anyone help on 3 Stuart glasses i have.I thought they were the Tamara pattern but the foot is different{please see photo}Can`t imagine why every part of the pattern looks to be Tamara except the foot.Mine have 2 cut rings.
Also any idea what they would have been used for.
They measure 17 cms tall and hold just under 300ml.
Lastly, does anyone know of start and finishing dates of the manufacture of these.
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks,Paul.
Just noticed after posting the photos that the Stuartmark is not showing that it has the "squiggly" tail.

They are ale glasses from the 1930's, you can see developments in the patterns right up to when Stuart closed, these two have hints of the Elgin pattern with airtwist stems just a bit taller than yours. would of had a jug and prob 4-6 glasses. regards Chris.

Hi Chris, thank you for that info. With my glasses only holding 300ml they were certainly civil drinkers in the 30`s.
Unfortunately no sign of a jug, just the 3 were found.
Strangely enough, here in Australia at the pub you can buy a cold  jug of beer and get the amount of glasses you need which are quite small. Not checked but they could be around 300-330ml.
Cheers Paul.

In my Stuart Catalog under Tamara pattern - that style of glass is not as uncouth as a beer glass - it is an Iced Tea glass in the diagram and it held 12.5 ozs / 345 mls of liquid.  Oh I just noticed the full specifications page calls it Iced Tea or Shandy.

Hi Ross,
i have filled these right to the top and they hold exactly 280 ml.Not sure how glass sizes are determined but 250ml/10oz is 10mm down from the top of the rim.Cheers.

This is the relevant catalogue page, Paul.

Careful reading shows a somewhat larger Fruit Juice(than the illustration)is 10oz / 280mls capacity and is 6.75" / 172mms tall.  So definitely not a mundane Beer/Ale glass

Ross

PS   The catalog page is only 103KB and  should blow up to readable size if you copy it and then open in a normal photo display program like MS Office Picture Manager or
        similar.

Hi Ross,
thank you so much for sending the info. The difference i see with the iced tea glass is that the shape looks totally different to the ones i have. The ice tea glass looks like the bowl finishes right at the foot with no stem.Mine finishes like the goblet shown.
By the way,i must say they look and feel absolutely great in the hand.
Cheers again,Paul.
