Venini with Hardy Lido label but no etched mark
« on: April 09, 2018, 11:21:27 AM »
Hello,

I have picked up this vase at a fair...about 9 inches high and about 4 1/2 inches diam at the base. Looks to me to be a Venini piece but there is no etched signature. What there is a hardy Lido import label which, I believe puts it in the correct age bracket. They say that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing and I know that that is never more true than dealing with glass so I am always try to be super safe on attributing origins. I would be interested in any thoughts re Hardy importing Venini pieces and whether those pieces always had a signature.

Thanks for looking

Your right about it being a minefield. There is a company making copies of Archimede Seguso's larger pieces that are well above Chinese but not as good as originals and a couple of guys asking big money for an average to poor copy.

The only thing you can do is exactly as you are, be ultra cautious, if it looks to be very well made, as yours appears to be, you have to be happy with that, assuming you did not pay a lot for it. You can drive yourself crazy trying to get a clear id on some of this glass.
Clean and Crisp a Murano twist.
Archimede tops my list.

The "Hardy import label" shown is now known to be Hans Geismar, not George Hardy.
Cheers! Anne, da tekniqual wizzerd
